Advocate in Residence

Aqsa Hussain

Aqsa is a Pupil Barrister (called to the Bar of England and Wales). She specialises in criminal and human rights law and is committed to building an international human rights law practice. Before committing to the legal and human rights world, Aqsa gained experience in the fields of international development, cyber security and strategy consulting. At the core of her life’s mission is the fight against injustice.

Advocate in residence project: Human Rights Pulse

Aqsa is the co-founder of Human Rights Pulse, alongside Dave Inder Comar (Executive Director of Just Atonement). Human Rights Pulse was born out of a desire to create an international community of human rights practitioners and enthusiasts dedicated to raising awareness about human rights issues around the globe. It has turned into something much more. It has become a hub for aspiring human rights practitioners, experts and everyone in between to contribute content about human rights issues that matter to them. The content ranges from current affairs updates, legal analysis and opinions, to photo storytelling and podcast conversations with human rights defenders. The aim is to create accessible, informative, and engaging content removing barriers to understanding the many important, complex and often distant issues beyond the scope of our everyday lives.

As an Advocate in Residence, Aqsa has taken the initiative to use technology to build a community that is passionate about advocating for human rights outside of traditional sectors, in an effort to promote greater dialogue and accountability.
