Preserving civilization in the face of growing fires
The world has already warmed one (1) degree Celsius over pre-industrial levels, and it is set to warm to 1.5 degrees in the next 10 to 15 years.
To keep warming below 1.5 degrees, governments have to take immediate, drastic action to limit greenhouse gas emissions, and start taking steps to sequester carbon already in the atmosphere.
In the meantime, the effects of even a single degree of warming are already being felt in the form of unprecedented wildfires.
The 2020 wildfire season was historic both in Australia as well as in California, producing harrowing images of landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Golden Gate Bridge shrouded in wildfire smoke and glowing, unnatural colors.
As of this writing, California is also experiencing historic drought—what some scientists are calling a “megadrought”—which is, in turn, producing a severe threat of wildfires for the remainder of the year.
At Just Atonement Inc. we are increasingly focusing our attention on the threat of these wildfires. As governments continue to sit on their hands with respect to climate change, it is likely and even probable that these fires will become increasingly destructive and may even threaten the long term habitability of many populated regions.
If you have been affected by fire in California, feel free to reach out to us.
